This vacancy is in the Environmental Health Division, Food, Pools, and Lodging Services Section, South Field Operations Unit. The position is located in the St Paul office.
This position is responsible for the enforcement of state statutes and rules which govern food and beverage service establishments, lodging facilties, manufactured home parks, recreational camping areas, youth camps, and public pools. These regulated establishments are investigated at state mandated frequencies based on established health risk categories to ensure injury hazards and the risks of disease transmission are minimized. In addition, the position investigates complaints related to the licensed establishments and assists with foodborne and waterborne illness investigations.
Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Public or Environmental Health, Food Science/Technology, Toxicology, Soil Science, Environmental Studies/Ecology OR Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Sanitary Engineering.
Registration as a Sanitarian/Environmental Health Specialist
This position requires extensive driving, walking, negotiating tight spaces and stairs. Lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license.
Working knowledge of common business practices and of general requirements for sanitary conditions in public lodging places and establishments serving food and beverages.
Thorough knowledge of the principles of public health involved in the transmission of disease, water supply sanitation, sewage treatment, laws and regulations governing sanitary conditions and practices, swimming pools, and of what constitutes legal evidence.
Ability to gather facts by personal contacts and observation, establish and maintain effective public contact, make clear and concise reports, conduct an educational program in environmental sanitation, plan and conduct sanitary surveys and investigations and prepare reports and orders, establish effective working relationships with business owners and the general public, gather and interpret data and information and skill in preparing letters, documents and reports, work effectively with a wide variety of government officials, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, with community groups and with the general public.
