MinnAqua is a state-wide education program designed to teach recreational fishing and stewardship as well as ecology and conservation of aquatic habitats. Since its inception in 1990 by the MN DNR, MinnAqua has reached thousands of new anglers throughout Minnesota. We provide programs and clinics for a wide range of ages and groups, including community recreation programs, parent/child groups, school groups, scouting, 4-H, and other youth organizations. These internships are excellent for Natural Resource or Education majors.
This position includes considerable time driving to and from programs. Driving for up to 3 hours one-way may be possible.

The Duluth MinnAqua Intern is located in the Great Lakes Aquarium and this intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with Great Lakes Aquarium staff on projects related to GLA exhibits and floor-programs. This intern often provides programming along Lake Superior and the St. Louis River.
Minimum Qualifications:   Must have First Aid and CPR training certification (will be provided if necessary by employer)

Requires purchase of Minnesota fishing license and Trout Stamp.

In order to hold this position you must have earned a high school diploma or G.E.D and be currently enrolled in a college degree-seeking program. Students must receive academic credit or their academic program must require an internship. Interns must be majoring in one of the following: Biology, Communications, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Education, Education Certification Program, Enforcement, Environmental Education, Enviromental Interpretation, Environmental Science, Fisheries and Wildlife, Forestry, Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, Natural Resources, Park and Leisure Studies, Recreation, Recreation Resource Management, Youth Development.
Requires frequently lifting and/or carrying of articles that weigh approximately 30 pound such as learning trunks, fishing poles bags and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on outside terrain and involve sitting at a computer completing electronic forms and completing data entry.

Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:   Students who are available to begin their internship earlier will be given preference.

Experience in fishing and/or aquatic environments

Fly-fishing experience

Experience working with diverse audiences

Able to work independently, often without direct supervision

Able to anticipate problems and clearly communicate with supervisor for guidance with problem-solving

Strong Organizational skills
