Job Description:   ** Background check required. **

This position exists to perform janitorial duties in Res Life buildings so that high levels of cleanliness are established, maintained, and taught to subordinates. This position serves as a lead worker for student workers and pressure wash crew during the academic year, other General Maintenance workers in the summer. The GMW Lead will work the weekend shift and be responsible for providing work directions and managing operations that occur on the weekend, in the absence of the Building Services Foreman.


1. Perform janitorial work in any or all of the following areas as assigned by foreman, while developing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with fellow employees.
a. Sweep, scrub, mop, wax or otherwise clean floors, either by machine or manually.
b. Clean restrooms, showers and locker rooms.
c. Move, dust, deep clean and rearrange furniture.
d. Wash windows, skylights, ceilings, and walls.
e. Change light bulbs.
f. Haul recyclables and refuse to pick-up points.
g. Operate and maintain burnishers, auto-scrubbers, snow-blowers and other departmental equipment.
h. Make minor repairs to equipment as directed.
i. Estimate needs and requisition supplies.
j. Provide instruction and guidance to assigned student workers

2. Provide lead work for summer and interim floor finishing and ensure department standards are met.

3. Provide lead work direction and perform janitorial duties during the set up and tear down of special events that occur in the residential life buildings, such as student events, WOW events, etc.

4. Assist foremen with delegating and completing work ? both indoors (covering areas) and outdoors (removing snow) during weather incidents such as snow storms.

5. Respond to and make written record of emergency clean up calls in non-academic areas of campus (i.e. CSU and residence halls).

6. Other duties as assigned by foremen or director.

Minimum Qualifications:   KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

-Knowledge of principles of leadwork sufficient to plan, direct, provide training for, monitor and review the work of subordinates.
-Knowledge of different types of flooring sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance.
-Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
-Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to operate safely, demonstrate effectively and make minor repairs or direct repairs.
-Ability to provide oral and written instructions sufficient to ensure that other maintenance workers understand their assignments.
-Ability to keep records and perform clerical functions and math calculations sufficient to order supplies and complete inventories.
-Ability to read and understand written materials such as instruction manuals, and procedure and policy information.

-Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks, lift and carry materials weighing 40-60 lbs (and occasionally more), and work in inclement weather conditions when necessary. Physical health and endurance sufficient to use hand tools and to lift and carry materials (occasionally up to 100 pounds) manually is required. GMW Leads must also be able to use ladders and scaffolding. This job will require walking or standing to a significant degree. This job will also involve pushing, pulling, and lifting of heavy objects such as snow, trash, equipment, etc.



Preferred Qualifications:   -Knowledge of the proper use of MSDS sheets.
-Knowledge of Right-to-Know regulations, OSHA, Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, and the proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
