Job Description:   This position is located in the Immunization, Tuberculosis and International Health (ITIH) Section of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Prevention and Control (IDEPC) Division.

This position exists to strategically plan and design statewide educational and awareness communications for the ITIH section, with a particular focus on social media and communications planning and evaluation.

Job Responsibilities include:
Designing, developing, editing, and producing print and electronic materials(e.g., newsletters, fact sheets, feature articles, website/web pages, press/news releases, advertisements, posters, infographics and social media messages) for a variety of professional audiences and the general public so that program informational/educational communication goals and objectives are met;

Coordinating, strategizing, planning, and evaluating statewide social marketing/communication campaigns for the ITIH section (e.g., National Infant Immunization Week, National Immunization Awareness Month, National Influenza Vaccination Week/Ban the Bug, etc.) so that messages are clear, current, consistent and accurate;

Serving as social media coordinator and technical resource for the ITIH Section; coordinating tasks such as scheduling message releases, translation of messages and other methods of distributing messages (e.g., web, social media, video, etc.); and

Coordinating updates to ITIH section website/web pages.
Minimum Qualifications:   Two (2) years of professional experience in health education, promotion, or risk reduction with responsibility for planning and conducting programs, courses, seminars/workshops, etc.; developing education materials; designing surveys/conducting needs assessments; or conducting research on behavior change.

A Master's degree in Health Education, Adult Education, Mass Communication, or Journalism or closely related field will count as one (1) year of professional experience, a Bachelor's degree will count as six (6) months of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:   Master's degree in health education, communication, or health journalism preferred.

General knowledge of the program areas of the ITIH section: immunization, tuberculosis, and refugee health.

Working knowledge of MDH printing and web-related processes and policies.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, sufficient to present health information to individuals and groups, promote program involvement, market program messages and design and draft brochures, articles and reports.

Cultural diversity sufficient to design effective health education programs and materials for a variety of audiences.

Ability to use graphic technologies including, but not limited to: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft Products.

Media techniques sufficient to select appropriate media methods to promote public health issues and programs through reports, fact sheets, brochures, audio visual presentations, and exhibits.
