Our program strives to introduce people to the Minnesota DNR. The Watercraft Inspection Program offers a unique opportunity to learn about natural resource management first hand while at the same time learning about the wide variety of public perceptions about natural resources. Your summer as a watercraft inspector will provide you with extensive knowledge of harmful aquatic invasive species and their impacts on Minnesota resources. Invasive species are a global threat to biodiversity. The prevention of the spread and the control of invasives will only become more important as international trade moves more organisms from one corner of the world to another. As a watercraft inspector you will have the opportunity to talk with experts in the field of invasive species and your educational program.

**The anticipated duration of these internships will be April 12th through October 31st, 2014**
**This posting will remain open until all positions are filled. Initial interviews for these positions will tentatively be held the week of February 10th, 2014**
**Mandatory training sessions will be in April 2014 and will occur over a Friday and Saturday with one session in the Twin Cities area and one in the greater Brainerd Lakes area**
Days of work and hours will vary. Working weekends and holidays is required.

The Watercraft Inspector serves to inform and educate the public to the threats of ecologically harmful aquatic invasive species to Minnesota's waters. Inspectors work at public water access sites inspecting watercraft for invasive species and educating the public by providing information to watercraft users and conducting a brief survey . Other duties include assisting the Regional Supervisors with access postings, assisting Conservation Officers with access checks, invasive plant removal, and other natural resource projects
Have a valid MN class D drivers license or the equivalent.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal communication skills
Willingness to work odd hours and in adverse weather conditions
In order to hold this position you must be receiving college credit and majoring in one of the following: Biology, Natural Resources, Fisheries and Wildlife, Enforcement, Communications, Recreation Resource Management, Recreation, Park and Leisure studies, Ecology, Environmental Science, Geology, Sociology, Sociology of Law, Criminology and Deviance. Requires occasionally lifting articles such as 50-pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
Sound understanding of customer relations.
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks within a professional setting.
Demonstrated interest in environmental work through education, volunteer work, and/or hobbies.
