Job Description:   This position requires an experienced technical leader and visionary with significant experience building mostly Microsoft web applications in an academic and e-commerce space. Colleges and departments are asking for information and tools to provide better service to students and better information for faculty and staff for decision making.

This position exists to plan, develop, and maintain data-driven applications projects and work with members of the application development team in designing, developing, coding, implementing, and maintaining web-delivered services, applications, and/or systems for colleges, departments, offices, and programs of the University. These applications integrate or interface with local MSU systems, MnSCU systems, and other external systems. Solutions proposed by the incumbent will reflect understanding of local and system-wide business practices, and an awareness of new technologies that answer client needs.

1) To complete programming projects in accordance with established schedules and procedures with minimal supervision.

a. Maintain and enhance existing applications according to system and customer requirements.
b. Use MS SQL Server or other databases as required for projects.
c. Use ISRS consistent with its system design and requirements; to collect its data for reporting and submit to it for insertion as required.
d. Develop dynamic web pages offering efficient and effective application features necessary to meet client requirements.
e. Coordinate with other data administrators to assure appropriate data conversion and data integrity.

2) To gather requirements from clients and design software features and functions, and create user interface prototypes.

3) Code complex program modules for new web-delivered applications and for modifications to existing database application systems.

a. Use Visual Basic.NET, or other similar established technologies to code dynamic web pages.
b. Use MS SQL and other established database administration tools and technologies to achieve project data goals.
c. Gain experience in available development tools and techniques.
d. Work with other staff in coordinating development of program modules.

4) Prepare test data and assist with testing and debugging of complex systems.

5) Provide clear, concise system and program training and documentation to ensure the proper use of database administration and application development tools.

Minimum Qualifications:   KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

-Project management skills: Technical experience, experience as a leader, enthusiasm and skills to effectively manage and deliver projects with a team of full-time staff, part-time students, and grad assistants.
-A proven track record in building complicated, secure, scalable web applications.
-One (1) year experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and/or 2012 and Two (2) years experience with ASP.NET 2.0 (or later) and/or VB.NET,/C#.
-Strong technical experience with system analysis, security and technical standards development, debugging, and quality assurance testing.
-Superior customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:   -Bachelor's Degree
-One (1) + years experience in e-commerce development.
-Proven ability to lead both simple and complex web development projects working with a development team and customers.
-Experience with Section 508 accessibility standards, SEO principles, and site usability best practices.
-Good overall understanding of business processes.
-Proven ability to manage and complete projects/tasks on time while delivering expected results.
-Enthusiasm and energy to solve business problems and delight clientele.
-Extensive knowledge of HTML, XHTML and CSS.
