Job Description:   This position is located in the Newborn Screening Section of the Public Health Laboratory (PHL) Division at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

This position will provide assistance to subject matter experts in planning and implementing educational efforts within the newborn screening program directed toward parents, expectant parents, health care providers, and the public. Responsibilities include:

Serve as graphical and technical resource for staff in the Communication and Education Unit in order to facilitate the production of newborn screening educational materials consistent with the Newborn Screening and MDH design standards.

Coordinate tasks such as translation, distribution, and inventory monitoring of materials.

Provide support for and/or staff Newborn Screening Program educational outreach events across the state.

Support Public Health Laboratory wide communication/outreach type of efforts such as coordinating and improving lab tours.
Minimum Qualifications:   Two (2) years of professional experience in health education, promotion, or risk reduction with responsibility for planning and conducting programs, courses, seminars/workshops, etc.; developing education materials; designing surveys/conducting needs assessments; or conducting research on behavior change.

A Master's degree in Health Education, Adult Education, Mass Communication, or Journalism or closely related field will count as one (1) year of professional experience, a Bachelor's degree will count as six (6) months of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:   Competent in InDesign and Adobe Captivate.

Experience with eLearning technologies.

Experience designing educational tools for a variety of audiences.

Experience with social media for education/promotion.

Knowledge of, and desire to, explore alternative methods to educate and increase awareness.
