Job Description:   NOTE TO APPLICANTS: Effective July 1, 2014 the above salary rates shall be increased by 3%.

This position is located in the Oral Health Unit of the Center for Health Promotion Section within the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease (HPCD) Division.

This position will plan and implement public health communications efforts that engage partners and to develop and execute strategic communication plans to advance the Oral Health Program's goals and objectives.

Primary responsibilities will include:

-Develop key messages and talking points that are evidence-based and aligned with the Oral Health Program's strategic goals and initiatives.
-Assist in the development of program presentation materials such as Power Points, posters, and brochures.
-Manage the program e-newsletter and coordinate dynamic website content.
-Monitor, archive, and distribute local and national oral health media coverage related to the program's activities in cavity prevention, dental sealants, oral health promotion, and related oral disease prevention strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:   Three (3) years of advanced professional experience implementing and coordinating a regional or statewide health promotion/education project with responsibility for budgeting, setting objectives, selecting methodology, designing content and evaluating effectiveness.

A Master?s degree in Health Education, Adult Education, Mass Communication, Journalism or closely related field will count as one (1) year of professional experience, a Bachelor?s degree will count as six (6) months.

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders and ledgers. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Preferred Qualifications:   Knowledge of the epidemiology of oral health and psycho-social risk factors associated with oral disease and oral disease risk across populations.

Oral health knowledge and/or clinical experience.

Close working relationships with other program staff both internal and external to MDH, as well as local partners and providers, with special emphasis on the oral health community.

Ability to rely on working relationships to accomplish project tasks.

Ability to communicate easily with people from diverse backgrounds, and be able to establish rapport.
