Job Description:   *This position is full-time during the academic year and part-time during the summer and breaks.

This position exists to provide direct care to patients and administrative support for the department. He or she provides primary care with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health promotion to students at the Student Health Service. The NP must competently assess, diagnose and treat common and complex adult health problems; teach and counsel about health concerns; coordinate care including referrals and consultations. The NP functions within the framework of the Minnesota Nursing Practice Act. The NP supervises the nursing staff and oversees special clinic projects at the direction of the Director and Medical Director. This position is also responsible for Health Service administration in the absence of the Director.

1. Assessment and treatments of patients presenting for health maintenance and health care so that the student may return to optimum health.
a. Obtain medical and psychosocial history
b. Perform physical examination
c. Order diagnostic studies
d. Diagnose and treat conditions as indicated
e. Consult with physicians and other health care providers at the SHS & in the community when indicated
f. Patient education regarding preventive health management, treatment and medications
g. Oversee nursing staff when they administer patient medications
h. Maintain an accurate medical/legal record of patient care
i. Ensure problem lists, prescriptions and history are up to date
j. Maintain patient-provider confidentiality and boundaries at all times

2. Meet licensure requirements.

3. Provide administrative support to ensure a compliant Health Services facility and quality of care to Health Services patients.

4. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

Minimum Qualifications:   KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

- Current RN License
- Current NP Certification (Adult, Family Practice)
- Current DEA Certification
- Current CPR Certification


Preferred Qualifications:   - Supervisory experience
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population
- Knowledge of college health
- Experience working with accrediting bodies
- Credentialed with insurance
